Speeding Citation Suspensions

If you have accumulated 3 speeding citations in a 12 month period (calculated by conviction date), the Registry of Motor Vehicles will suspend your drivers license for thirty (30) days. Assuming that your driving record is accurate and that you were actually found responsible for the 3 speeding violations, there is nothing that you can do to avoid the Speeding License Suspension. The RMV has no discretion and it must suspend your license. However, you may be able to appeal the suspension to the Board of Appeal. The only way to avoid a Speeding License Suspension is to not get the citations or get found "not responsible" in court. If you have received a speeding citation, it might make sense to appeal the ticket and avoid a license suspension. Contact a Speeding Ticket Lawyer to discuss your options.

When you pay a speeding citation, you are admitting responsibility and the ticket will count against you for the purpose of 7 Surchargable Events & Habitual Traffic Offender License Suspensions.

Also, when you pay a speeding ticket, if you have a Junior Operator's License, it will also count against you for license suspension purposes. Therefore, it might make sense to appeal the citation. If you have any questions or need more information about your Massachusetts suspension or revocation, you may call the Suspensions Department of the Massachusetts RMV at (617) 351-7200 or you may contact a Registry Attorney.

If you have 2 speeding convictions on your record within a 1 year period, you should absolutely appeal the 3rd speeding ticket. If you are found not responsible, your license will not be suspended. Also, by appealing you can delay the conviction date, which may avoid the automatic 30 day suspension. Contact us to find out more.
