Free Connecticut CDL Permit Practice Test: General Knowledge 2025

  • Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements.

We bet we know why you’re here: You need to pass the official General Knowledge test on commercial driving theory. You’ve been studying the official Connecticut Commercial Driver License Manual (Connecticut CDL Handbook 2025) because you know the knowledge test is based on it. But after you looked at the manual, you felt you could use some more help to be sure of passing the knowledge test. Great! That’s just what we do. We’ve helped thousands of aspiring drivers pass their knowledge tests, and we can help you too.

This free Connecticut CDL permit practice test is also based on the official manual and is up to date as of October, 2025. Practicing with it will reinforce your knowledge and identify topics you need to study further. Each of the 50 practice questions comes with a helpful hint and an explanation of the correct answer. The practice questions contained in this test will assess your knowledge of such topics as basic driving skills, cargo management, emergency preparedness, following distance, and pre-trip inspections. We have other General Knowledge practice tests on other topics too. Keep practicing with them until you feel ready to take the official General Knowledge test.

Passing the General Knowledge test is a big step – but only one step – toward obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). By passing a medical examination and meeting a few other requirements, you’ll become eligible for a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). It takes a lot of driving practice to become proficient at commercial driving. Your CLP will legally allow you to practice commercial driving under the supervision of a CDL holder. Once you become good at commercial driving, you will be ready to take the skills test for a CDL.

With your CDL in hand, you shouldn’t have trouble finding work as a commercial driver in Connecticut. The agricultural sector depends on truckers to transport its products. Manufacturing, largely in defense and aerospace, is the third-largest economic sector in the state. These high-tech firms depend on truckers to deliver equipment and materials to them as well as transport products. Another major economic sector in Connecticut is tourism, which employs bus drivers to transport visitors, especially to and from the state’s casinos.

The most important trucking route in Connecticut is Interstate 95, which runs along the coast between New York City and Rhode Island but which is notorious for traffic jams during rush hours. Other important commercial routes are Interstate 84, which connects Danbury to Hartford; and U.S. Route 7, which runs northward from Norwalk to Danbury and then to the Massachusetts border.

Was in and out of there within minutes.
I was in and out of there within minutes. So I recommend this. It's insurance to make sure that you get an actual career going, because without this, without the actual permit, you're going nowhere.

Best site.
It is very easy to navigate through the different tests. All the information is very helpfull, especially the Ai assist incase you ever have a question. Update 04/15/24: Passed my cdl permit exams first try. Questions were practially spot on with the practice tests

The learning questions are 100% realistic.
The questions are almost the real questions as in the exam. More importantly, there are no superfluous questions. To test my skills further, I used another app on the market for a short moment, which asked questions that were not on my CDL exam at all. For example, no traffic signs are asked. Therefore, I can say that you can rely on the questions and your own learning progress with Driving-Test. I finished my written exam after a few minutes. And it's worth mentioning, I just recently moved to the US and am not a native English speaker.

Great site.
I was using another for 3 weeks and I failed on my first attempt. I went to driving-tests.org 2 days before the test. I crammed and passed my cdl permit just in time to start my class.

While searching for information about….
While searching for information about how to obtain a Commercial Driver's License I came across the website. The information I found there was clear and concise. As I spent more time on the site, I found more information specific to my needs. I was really happy when I got to the portion of the site which offers test preparation materials. The methods used by Drive-Tests fit my learning style and I have gained confidence as I approach my test at the Department of Motor Vehicles.

This Program IS THE Real CDL DEAL!
This program is the real deal. I took 4 tests today - the CDL General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combinations, as well as the Class C. There were no surprises! After going through the program I can honestly say that I aced each test. I can't remember ever being so well prepared for a test of any kind before! If you want to pass your CDL with flying colors - then this is the program for you. I can't say enough good things about it!

I failed my first Dot knowledge test.
Afterwards I used driving-tests.org to do the practice tests. I went back after a couple of practice tests and passed my knowledge test and eventually went on to pass my CDL A test.
