Massachusetts Registry to Launch Yellow Blitz

by Attorney Brian E. Simoneau 8. October 2010 02:24

In an effort to improve roadway safety, the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles and local police Departments will be commencing “Operation Yellow Blitz.” Under this traffic safety program, police officers will be vigilantly enforcing the Massachusetts traffic law which requires motor vehicles to stop for flashing red lights on school buses which pick up and drop off students Failure to stop for a school bus with its lights flashing is a serious offense which could cause death or serious injury to a child. A violation of G.L. c. 90 § 14, the law which requires stopping for school buses carries a $250.00 fine. Also, if you are convicted of a second or subsequent school bus violation, the Registry of Motor Vehicles will automatically suspend your driver’s license for one (1) year. In certain cases, police may file immediate threat reports on drivers who endanger children by not stopping for a school bus with its red lights flashing.
