According to the Worcester Telegram, in an effort to improve customer service, the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles has extended the hours of some Registry branches. The busy Worcester Registry Branch will now be open from 8:00 AM for license and registration services and it will close at 5:00 PM on all weekdays except Thursdays, when the branch will remain open until 6:00 PM. It will offer road tests and license suspension & revocation hearings on weekdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The Registry will also be expanding operating hours of the Taunton, Brockton, Milford, and Lawrence branches. The expanded hours were implemented to improve customer service and reduce customer wait times. The Registry should be given credit for better serving the public at a time when most state agencies are cutting back and reducing services to save money.
Customers who are appealing license suspensions or attempting to get a hardship driver’s license can only be serviced at certain branches, as these transactions require a registry hearing. Also, after receiving a winning decision from the Board of Appeal, customers must meet with a hearings officer. Registry hearings officers are located in Boston, Worcester, Brockton, Fall River, S. Yarmouth, Lawrence, Wilmington, and Springfield. Chemical test and breathalyzer refusal suspensions can only be appealed at the Boston RMV, which is located at 630 Washington Street in Chinatown.
