The Quincy Patriot Ledger reported today that a Hull man is being charged with tampering with his ignition interlock device and operating a motor vehicle without an interlock device. The IID tampering charges are being filed after he was involved in an accident in Hingham, Massachusetts. He was already charged with OUI drugs, operating so as to endanger, failure to stay within marked lanes, and violating the controlled substance law. Police officers who investigated the accident found that Daniel J. Brunke appeared to be under the influence of drugs. They also discovered that Brunke’s ignition interlock device was not working properly. Representatives from the ignition interlock device vendor confirmed that the device had been tampered with.
Driving without an ignition interlock device is a felony which carries a minimum mandatory 180 day jail sentence and up to 5 years in state prison. It carries a fine of at least $1,000.00 up to $15,000.00 and a 10 year license revocation.
Tampering with an ignition interlock devices carries a sentence of between 3 and 5 years in state prison and an automatic 10 year license revocation.
